Biography

Kyuhyun has a sister named Cho Ahra. Kyuhyun’s father is in the education business and owns an academy. Largely due to his parents’ involvement with the education business, he spent a lot of time studying and preparing for exams. Kyuhyun was known to be a smart student in his schooling days, placing 2nd rank in middle school. He has expressed a lot of interest in Math in particular, joining a Math Olympiad when he was young, and won a bronze medal.
He was initially urged to study law and had stated that if he didn’t become a singer, he would have chosen to become a lawyer. His original plans were abandoned once Kyuhyun joined a band in high school, where he became more interested in music and singing. His father was against his dream of singing but soon made a deal with Kyuhyun. If Kyuhyun did well on his college entrance exams and was accepted into a univerisity, he would be allowed to pursue music.
Kyuhyun was accepted into Kyunghee Univeristy and his father had allowed him to go on with his musical career.
Car Accident in April 2007
On April 19, 2007, a little after midnight, Kyuhyun with fellow members Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, and two managers were all hospitalized due to a serious car accident when returning from Super Junior Kiss The Radio program that night. The driver lost control of the vehicle as the van flipped over on its right side. The accident was caused by the driver over speeding. The driver was trying to switch lanes but lost control and collided with the guard rail.
Kyuhyun who was sitting behind the driver’s seat when the accident occured, was the most injured and had a fractured hip, pneumothorax from broken ribs, and facial scratches and bruises. He was slipping in and out of consciousness and was mute due to shock.
The doctor told Kyuhyun’s parents and the agency that to repair his pierced lungs he would have to make a hole in Kyuhyun’s neck thus ending career as singer. Kyuhyun’s father was the first to immediately reject the operation stating that Kyuhyun would rather die than not be able to sing, and pleaded the doctor to find another way to repair his son’s lungs. He was in a coma for four days and were told by doctors that he had about 20 percent or less chance to live.
Kyuhyun spent 6 days in the ICU before he was moved to a regular hospital room. He also didn’t need the respiratory machine to support his breathing, though it was said that he was only able to walk on his own one month after the accident. Kyuhyun was discharged on July 5, 2007, after 78 days.

Facts about Kyuhyun
1. Kyuhyun officially debuted in May 2006 as part of Super Junior, formerly “Super Junior 05″ who had debuted in November 2005. In March 2006, SM Entertainment began to recruit new members for the next generation (Super Junior 06). However, plans changed and the company declared a halt in forming future Super Junior generations. Following his addition to the group, they dropped the suffix “05″ and became officially credited as Super Junior.
2. Kyuhyun made his appearance as a part of Super Junior in a news broadcast on May 23, 2006 where the group also introduced their new single, U. His debut performance was on May 27, 2006 at SBS I-Concert, where it was also the group’s first comeback performance as a permanent group.
3. Kyuhyun’s beautiful voice had been known by SM Entertainment after he got the 3rd place in Chin Chin Singing Competition in 2005. He was chosen and was signed by SM Town. He also appeared in remake video of TVXQ’s “Hi Ya Ya”.
4. About the end of 2006, the first Super Junior’s subgroup had been made, Super Junior K.R.Y., consists of 3 members, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung. This subgroup is one of SM’s strategy, aim to show that Super Junior can sing many kinds of genre musics. This subgroup is specialize in ballad, and debuted on November 4, 2006 at KBS Music Bank

5. Kyuhyun has little problem in his ear, because of the infection when he was young, causing his left ear can’t hear well.
6. Kyuhyun is a Christian. When he was 8, his sister and him did a recording for a church song.
7. He was given a nickname, GameKyu, because he’s crazy of games. He has been playing games since 3rd grade in elementary school. After school ended, he would come home fast to play games. When his friends asked him to go out, he would answer no or he would say that he wasn’t allowed to go out by his parents.
8. He has so many nicknames (probably more than 50). Leeteuk once asked him, which nickname does he like. He said that he likes GameKyu the most.

Then he had stopped playing games for a while and always watched film. He said, “Recently I always watch films. Maybe one day I could be an actor.”
Because of his new hobby, Leeteuk gave him a new nickname “DraKyu”

11. Kyuhyun is currently studying at Kyunghee University majoring in Post Modern Music. Whereas his family wanted him to study at Hakwon University.

28. Although Kyuhyun likes playing games, but he’s a smart student. When he was in high school, he got the highest IQ among the sudents in his generation. He is also good at Math. He got bronze medal in Math Olympiad.
